In these web pages I was supposed to give some documentation for the small WAP application I produced, but I saw that it should be more interesting to write here also some paragraphs and give some examples about those technologies I was using in my work, so I'm going to tell a little about WAP in general, WML, ASP and at last WMLScript. I hope this will be helpful for people who want to learn about WAP although I believe that it is not sufficient because every topic I'm talking about here needs actually a separate web site to be fully understood, but by providing some examples in addition to explanations of the source code of my application I wish to whet your appetite :) and push you for more advanced studies. The application I developed could be used in stores where workers using their WAP-enabled mobile phones can make orders for products which are going to be missing from the stock. First they have to get a user id and password from the system manager to login to the service, after entering they will get the list of products from which they can select the one needed and give the number of units and date when it should be available, the date of the order and the name of the user will be added by the application itself, and all these information will be saved in the system's databases. After giving the description of the application, we can now move on and start with an overview of WAP, so please click on [Next], or feel free to choose whatever topic you like from the menu at left, I should tell you that I'll start speaking again about the application at the last part of the WML page, and its end will be in the ASP page. |
